Popular vs Low-Profile

It’s funny how I always end up being friends with a popular crowd at the beginning. Honestly, it’s pretty fun at the start, you’re always the center of attention, people regard you as one of the “cool” people. But pretty soon, the magic wears off.

You start to see these people for who they really are. Just a bunch of attention-seeking fools who will make fun of other people just to get notice or talked about. I’m ashamed to even be called as “one of them”. I started thinking, “How did I ever end up hanging around these people?”, “What did I see in them that made me even want to spend time with them?”

When I finally discovered the answer, I started drifting away. I distanced myself from them, until slowly, I get used to their absence in my life.

The sooner I stayed away, the sooner I found better company. Yes, they are no longer popular, we maybe the low profile people of the company. But I found out, that being like this, people were the ones to approach us. We are likable in our own unpopular way.

That was when I found out that a lot of people didn’t really like the company I used to keep. Am I glad that I made the decision to stay away, though no longer the center of attention, at least I made a better reputation of myself.

Lesson learned: Just because you are popular doesn’t necessarily mean that people like you. It’s better to stay humble and low-profile, and have people become fond of you, rather than belonging to a group where, although popular, but are garnering negative comments from people around you.
